During warmup the car runs richer than usual. Just by letting your car idle to warmup isn't doing the same thing as taking it for a light drive, then driving normally once up to operating temp. Are you sure your "white" smoke isn't burning oil (which would not be exactly white). If it is white, it's either coolant (which would smell sweet as indicated by others) or is condensation. I'd start with small maintenance first, that way you at least know those parts are on the up-n-up (fuel filter, FPR, spark plugs, etc.)
